Project title: Art-based Methods Inspired by Philosophy and Literature for Youth Training (AMIPLYT)
National Agency: Jugend für Europa
Project code: 2022-3-DE04-KA210-YOU-000099806
Participating organisations: THEATER SCHIESSBÜHNE e.V. (Germany), EN ARMONIA (Greece), ASSOCIATION-COMPAGNIE NOURA (France)
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Anthropological studies and psychological research have shown that the existence of inclusive societies where socially aware people can peacefully co-exist through respect to diversity and inclusion, can take place only through mutual understanding and recognition of diversity. There is a great need for young people to feel trust towards one another, becoming persons who can offer to the society they live in.
Several scholars provided guidelines on how art-based experience offers to young people the possibility to articulate delicate meanings leading to awareness of issues not easily comprehended through rational argumentation.
This project aimed to provide youth trainers in art and humanities with alternative art-based methods which help young people to work with the feelings arising through the learning context.
More specifically, a structured improvisation and experience-based movement methodology was developed, reflecting emotions and feelings inspired by philosophical and literary texts which raise social awareness and promote respect for inclusion and diversity. Through this movement methodology, the social and humanistic concepts of these texts were promoted, strengthening the ability of the young learners to conceptualize them.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The objectives of the proposed project were:
- to enhance the ability of youth trainers in art and humanities to develop tolerance, mutual understanding and respect for inclusion and diversity to young people, including those with fewer opportunities, by using art-based methods in youth training,
- to enhance the ability of youth trainers in art and humanities to help young people, including those with fewer opportunities, to conceptualise values inspired by philosophical and literary texts and promoting respect for inclusion and diversity, by using a structured improvisation and experience-based movement methodology,
- to enhance the access of open source art-based training tools to youth trainers and learners, including those with fewer opportunities, thus reducing disparities and promoting social inclusion,
- to promote equal opportunities and access, inclusion, diversity and fairness across all the stages of the project by involving participants with fewer opportunities in the implementation of the project,
- to reinforce cooperation with partners from other countries and other fields of education and training,
- to develop environmental consciousness by implementing the project activities with alternative greener ways.
OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECT
The outcomes of the project were:
- Enhancement of the ability of youth trainers in art and humanities to develop mutual understanding and respect for inclusion and diversity to young peopleby using art-based methods in youth training.

ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT
The training activities which were organised during the implementation of the AMIPLYT project were the following:
A1: Staff training activity
Châteauroux, France, 07/05/2023 – 11/05/2023
Participants: 2 trainers from each participating organisation
The staff training activity A1 was organised by NOURA in Châteauroux, France. Two staff members from each partner participated for 5 days.
Before this activity, the three partners did research on philosophical and literary texts in order to find writings promoting tolerance, mutual understanding and respect for inclusion and diversity.
After the selection of texts, each partner undertook the interpretation of certain texts and the social and humanistic values stemming from these texts into a series of structured improvisation and experience-based movements.
In the staff training activity A1, the staff of the partners trained each other by demonstrating ways of interpreting philosophical and literary texts and the social and humanistic values stemming from these texts into a series of structured improvisation and experience-based movements.
This activity led to the development of:
- a movement methodology which reflected emotions and feelings inspired by philosophical and literary texts raising social awareness and promoting respect for inclusion and diversity,
- a digital handbook linked to tutorial videos, presenting a structured improvisation and experience-based movement methodology, to help young people to conceptualise values inspired by philosophical and literary texts,
- a case study based on this methodology.
This digital handbook and the case study became a training tool for youth trainers in art and humanities on how to use structured improvisation and experience-based movements in order to conceptualise values such as tolerance, mutual understanding and respect for inclusion and diversity.

A2: Blended training activity
Skiathos, Greece, 23/06/2023 – 02/07/2023
Participants: 24 youth trainers in art and humanities (including 12 with fewer opportunities and 6 staff members (2 from each participating organisation)
This blended training activity (A2) was organised by EN ARMONIA on Skiathos Island in Greece, in an exterior place in nature, which was equipped by the Municipality of Skiathos. In this activity, 24 adult trainers in art and humanities (including 12 with fewer opportunities) and 6 staff members (2 from each participating organisation) participated for 10 days.
Taking into consideration:
- the nature of this activity,
- the expected results responding to the need for environmental consciousness,
- the offer of an equipped exterior place for implementing this activity by the Municipality of Skiathos,
SCHIESSBÜHNE decided that Skiathos was an appropriate place for this activity.
The immediate contact with nature gave the participants a chance to talk about green policies and environmentally sustainable behaviour adopted during the implementation of this activity, by using sustainable food, sustainable means of transportation and eco-friendly materials.
Before this activity, the participants were trained virtually for one month by the participating organisations. In this virtual training session, the digital handbook and the case study created in activity A1 were used as a training tool. The participating organisations were in direct contact through emails, Skype/Zoom conference meetings and the collaborative space of the EPALE platform in order to prepare the appropriate material for this activity.
EN ARMONIA was responsible for the practical and logistic matters (e.g. sustainable travel, accommodation, safety and protection of participants, etc.). The participants were advised before travel to issue a European Health Insurance Card. EN ARMONIA also prepared an information package for the participants.
In this blended training activity, the participants developed their professional skills and capacities, using as a tool the digital handbook and the case study created in the staff training activity A1.
